Free University of Amsterdam

The Institute for Environmental Studies (Instituut voor Milieuvraagstukken, IVM) at the Free University of Amsterdam (VU) is the oldest environmental research institute in the Netherlands. IVM’s research community of about 140 scientists and support staff address challenging environmental problems and offer both innovative and pragmatic solutions. Within IVM, the Department of Environmental Policy Analysis (EPA) specialises in the analysis of institutions and governance mechanisms ranging from the local to the global level. EPA has repeatedly been evaluated as the best Dutch research group in this field.

Within REDD-ALERT, VU will lead work on Policy Options for Deforestation, providing expertise on climate and forestry policy analysis. It will also contribute to work on interfacing international policies with local stakeholder behaviour, and to integrative modeling activities.
